BIENNALE TEATRO 2021:
BLUEStefano Ricci e Gianni Forte (ricci/forte) hanno scelto una palette di colori capace di comporre, pensando alla Comédie humaine di Balzac, il racconto in quattro parti della loro Biennale Teatro (2021-2024). E sarà il Blue, in tutte le sue sfumature, a fare da guida al 49. Festival Internazionale del Teatro in scena dal 2 all’11 luglio.
Krzysztof Warlikowski, Kornél Mundruczó con il Proton Theatre, Roberto Latini, Kae Tempest, Thomas Ostermeier e Edouard Louis, Danio Manfredini, Francesco Pititto e Maria Federica Maestri di Lenz Fondazione, Agrupación Señor Serrano, Filippo Andreatta e il suo Office for Human Theatre, Adrienn Hód, Paolo Costantini sono gli autori di 11 produzioni a cui si aggiungono le performance site specific dei due vincitori del nuovo bando Biennale College Teatro.
Alcuni dei registi invitati, accanto ad altri artisti e specialisti, saranno anche i Maestri per il programma di masterclass della Biennale College: Martin Crimp, Chiara Guidi e Galatea Ranzi, Leo Muscato con Nicole Kehrberger e il maestro Riccardo Frizza, Monica Capuani, Andrea Porcheddu, Davide Carnevali.
I premi di questa edizione della Biennale Teatro sono il Leone d’Oro alla carriera al regista polacco Krzysztof Warlikowski e il Leone d’Argento all’inglese Kae Tempest, poeta, autore per il teatro e di testi narrativi, rapper e performer di travolgenti e affollatissimi reading.
“Perché si parte dal blue?”, si chiedono ricci/forte. “Perché la malinconia, l’isolamento e la morte ci hanno arrestati: il silenzio dei Teatri vuoti potrebbe dipingersi con l’azzurro di un freddo che avvolge tutte le maestranze e gli artisti dello spettacolo ormai a casa da mesi… Blue sarà questa edizione 2021 della Biennale Teatro: un lavoro di riflessione sulla coscienza di un nuovo inizio.” |
Stefano Ricci and Gianni Forte (ricci/forte) have chosen a palette of colours, reflecting on Balzac’s Comédie humaine, to compose the four-part story of their Biennale Teatro. Blue, in all its nuances, will be the colour guiding the 49th International Theatre Festival of the La Biennale di Venezia, on stage from 2 to 11 July.
Krzysztof Warlikowski, Kornél Mundruczó with the Proton Theatre, Roberto Latini, Kae Tempest, Thomas Ostermeier and Edouard Louis, Danio Manfredini, Francesco Pititto and Maria Federica Maestri of the Lenz Fondazione, Agrupación Señor Serrano, Filippo Andreatta and his Office for Human Theatre, Adrienn Hód, and Paolo Costantini are the authors of 11 productions; furthermore, the site-specific performances of the two winners of the Biennale College Teatro’s call for applications are included in the programme.
Some of the invited directors will be joined by other artists and specialists as teachers in the masterclass programme for the Biennale College: Martin Crimp, Chiara Guidi and Galatea Ranzi, Leo Muscato with Nicole Kehrberger and the maestro Riccardo Frizza, Monica Capuani, Andrea Porcheddu, and Davide Carnevali.
The award recipients of this edition of the Biennale Teatro are Polish director Krzysztof Warlikowski, who will receive the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement, and Kae Tempest, English poet, author of plays and narrative, rapper and performer of powerful readings, who will receive the Silver Lion.
“Why are we starting with blue?”, ricci/forte wonder. “Because melancholy, isolation and death have stopped us: the silence of the empty Theatres could be painted with the blue of the cold that has engulfed the crews and artists of the performing arts who have been idle for months… Blue will be this 2021 edition of the Biennale Teatro: a reflection upon the awareness of a new beginning.” |
I LEONI DELLA BIENNALE TEATRO 2021LEONE D’ORO ALLA CARRIERA: “Da più di vent’anni Krzysztof Warlikowski – si legge nella motivazione del premio – è fautore di un profondo rinnovamento del linguaggio teatrale europeo. Utilizzando anche riferimenti cinematografici, un uso originale del video e inventando nuove forme di spettacolo atte a ristabilire il legame tra l’opera teatrale e il pubblico, Warlikowski sprona quest’ultimo a strappare il fondale di carta della propria vita e scoprire cosa nasconde realmente.”
Presente con le sue regie teatrali e gli allestimenti lirici nei maggiori festival e teatri d’opera di tutto il mondo, Krzysztof Warlikowski è “un artista libero – scrivono ricci/forte – che apre brecce poetiche illuminando con un fascio di luce cruda il rovescio della medaglia.”
Alla Biennale Teatro Warlikowski presenta lo spettacolo We Are Leaving in prima italiana: (2 luglio ore 19 e 3 luglio ore 17, Teatro alle Tese).
LEONE D’ARGENTO: “Quella di Kae Tempest è la voce poetica più potente e innovativa emersa nella Spoken Word Poetry degli ultimi anni – recita la motivazione – capace di scalare le classifiche editoriali inglesi e raccogliere consensi al di fuori dei confini nazionali per il coraggio ardimentoso nel dissezionare e raccontare con sguardo lucido angosce, solitudine, paure e precarietà di vivere – tra identità, ipocrisie e marginalità vissute anche sulla sua pelle – scaraventandosi contro l’odierna morale imperante e opprimente.”
A Kae Tempest è attribuito il Leone d’Argento “per voler sperimentare in un genere definito di nicchia, come la poesia, mescolando l’aulico con il basso, la rabbia con la dolcezza degli affetti – tra versi e rime taglienti, miti classici e ibridazioni hip hop – arrivando a parlare col cuore a un pubblico sempre più vasto.”
Alla Biennale Teatro Tempest presenta il reading del suo lavoro The Book of Traps & Lessons in prima italiana (10 luglio ore 21, Teatro Goldoni).
THE 2021 LION AWARDS FOR THEATREGOLDEN LION FOR LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT: “For over twenty years, Krzysztof Warlikowski – the motivation for the award reads – has been the advocate for a profound renewal of the European language of theatre. Relying on references from cinema and an original use of video, inventing new forms of theatre that aim to re-establish the bond between the play and the audience, Warlikowski encourages the latter to rip away the paper backdrop of their lives and to discover what is really hidden underneath.”
Featured with his theatre productions at the major festivals around the globe, and in the most important opera houses with his stagings, Krzysztof Warlikowski is “a free artist – ricci/forte continue – who opens poetic breaches to cast a ray of raw light on the other side of the coin.”
Warlikowski will present in Venice his production We Are Leaving on 2 July at 7 pm and 3 July at 5 pm, Teatro alle Tese.
SILVER LION: “The most powerful and innovative poetic voice to come out of Spoken Word Poetry in recent years – the motivation for the award states –, Kae Tempest are capable of rising through the ranks of English publishing and reaping consensus beyond the national borders for the ardent courage demonstrated in dissecting and describing with a lucid gaze the anguish, solitude, fear and insecurities of life – between identity, hypocrisy and marginality, which they also experienced personally – and lashing out at the dominating and oppressive morals of our day.”
Kae Tempest have been awarded the Silver Lion “for continuing to experiment with a genre such as poetry defined as niche, mixing the lofty with the low, anger with the tenderness of affection – between caustic verses and rhymes, classical myths and hip-hop hybridizations – speaking from the heart to an increasingly vast audience.”

BIENNALE COLLEGE TEATROIl progetto Biennale College Teatro secondo i Direttori ricci/forte consolida l’idea di ricerca e sostegno di nuovi talenti aggiungendo attenzione per la regia e la drammaturgia, soprattutto italiane; si articola nel 2021 in quattro sezioni:
Registi under 35: sei i progetti selezionati per la fase finale (di Michele Brasilio, Marco Fasciana, Elena Zamparutti e Francesco Cocco, Francesca Gabucci, Olmo Missaglia, Virginia Landi); un unico regista sarà il vincitore di un premio di produzione che consentirà la realizzazione, con il supporto dei Direttori artistici, del proprio spettacolo da presentare nell’ambito della Biennale Teatro 2022.
Autori under 40: da 16 autori attualmente selezionati, verranno scelti due autori vincitori che potranno presentare in forma di lettura scenica i loro testi originali, in collaborazione con un riconosciuto centro di formazione teatrale, alla Biennale Teatro 2022. Una masterclass, condotta da Davide Carnevali durante il 49. Festival, stabilirà al termine i due autori vincitori.
Performance site specific: i vincitori del bando, scelti fra le oltre 100 domande pervenute da 18 Paesi del mondo, sono Stellario Di Blasi e il collettivo –ness, composto da Rooy Charlie Lana e Giulia Zulian. Parteciperanno alla fase di realizzazione dei loro progetti performativi inediti – AB IMIS di Stellario Di Blasi e On a solitary beach di –ness, sotto la guida dei Direttori Stefano Ricci e Gianni Forte.
Masterclass: un programma di masterclass coprirà l’intera durata del 49. Festival coinvolgendo pubblico e professionisti da tutto il mondo per un’approfondita riflessione sul fare teatro oggi. I Maestri coinvolti sono: Monica Capuani per la traduzione teatrale, Martin Crimp per la drammaturgia, Chiara Guidi e Galatea Ranzi per attori/performer, Leo Muscato con Nicole Kehrberger e il maestro Riccardo Frizza per cantanti lirici, Danio Manfredini sul corpo poetico, Krzysztof Warlikowski per registi/drammaturghi, Adrienn Hód per attori/performer, Andrea Porcheddu per la critica teatrale.
The project Biennale College Teatro devised by Directors ricci/forte strengthens the plan for the search and support of new talents, focusing on direction and dramaturgy especially in Italy; in 2021 it is divided into four sections:
Italian directors under 35: six projects have been selected for the final phase (Michele Brasilio, Marco Fasciana, Elena Zamparutti e Francesco Cocco, Francesca Gabucci, Olmo Missaglia, and Virginia Landi); a single director will be chosen to develop the production, under the mentorship of Directors Ricci/Forte, of a piece to be presented at the Biennale Teatro 2022.
Italian authors under 40: out of 16 authors, at the conclusion of the various selection phases, two winning authors will be chosen to present their original texts in the form of a stage reading, in collaboration with a recognized centre of theatre education, at the Biennale Teatro 2022. A masterclass, held by Davide Carnevali during the 49th Festival, will end with the announcement of the two winning authors.
Site-specific performance: the winners of the call for applications, chosen among over 100 applications sent from 18 countries, are Stellario Di Blasi and the collective –ness, composed of Rooy Charlie Lana and Giulia Zulian. They will work on the production phase of their outdoor original performances – AB IMIS by Stellario Di Blasi and On a solitary beach by –ness, under the guidance of Directors Stefano Ricci and Gianni Forte.
Masterclasses: a programme of masterclasses will run for the entire duration of the 49th Festival, involving the public and professionals from around the world in an in-depth exploration of what it means to do theatre today. The Masters involved include: Monica Capuani for the translation of theatre, Martin Crimp for dramaturgy, Chiara Guidi and Galatea Ranzi for actors/performers, Leo Muscato with Nicole Kehrberger and maestro Riccardo Frizza for opera singers, Danio Manfredini about the poetic body, Krzysztof Warlikowski for directors/dramaturgs, Adrienn Hód for actors/performers, and Andrea Porcheddu for theatre critics. |
