"Queremos otorgar una Mención Especial a Notes on an Appearance, de Ricky D’Ambrose.

OFFICIAL COMPETITION

Official Jury formed by Andrea Guzmán, Václav Kadrnka and Ariel Schweitzer:
"First of all, the Jury wants to underline the spectacular quality of the selection of films in competition: that has given us the opportunity and the enormous pleasure of having been able to see some of the most visionary cinematographic works of the year. For its aesthetic qualities and, in addition, for its original political vision of colonialism as a mental illness, the jury has decided to give a Special Mention to Our Madness, by João Viana. For its unclassifiable aesthetic vision, for the sensual and hypnotic representation of nature, for having managed to talk about separation, loneliness and absence with a simple and original form, we have unanimously decided to give the Best Film Award of the Official Competition to DRIFT, by Helena Wittmann.

Young Jury of the Official Competition, formed by Inés Espinosa, Mikele Landa and Rosana Hinojosa:
"We want to grant a Special Mention to Notes on an Appearance, by Ricky D’Ambrose. Because it is a risky proposal that portrays a social and political reality through personal trauma and the reinterpretation of the cinematographic codes, we have unanimously decided to award the Young Jury Prize to Our Madness, by João Viana."

Jury Días de Cine, formed by Gerardo Sánchez, Raúl Alda and Javier Sales:
"We want to grant a Special Mention to Meteors, by Gürcan Keltek. For how it conveys nature’s mystery and power of summoning, for its time that invites us to let ourselves go without stridencies, for showing us a spiritual dimension that emanates from the earth and brings us closer to a perception of the afterlife where we share space with those who left, the Días de Cine Award goes to Trinta Lumes, by Diana Toucedo."

VANGUARDS COMPETITION

Vanguards Jury, composed by Nicole Brenez, Lur Olaizola and Luis Parés:
"First of all, the Jury wishes to congratulate FILMADRID Festival for its brightness and accuracy. The curating choices done by the Direction and the team of the Festival, lead by Nuria Cubas and Fernando Vílchez, testified a deep analysis of the innovative roles of cinema and art in a historical context. We give a Special Mention to Mountain Plain Mountain, by Yu Araki and Daniel Jacoby. Peter Kubelka once said that the greatest event is the relationship between sound and light provoked by a lightning, and that film can offer a lightning at every frame. For its art of the light and sound creating a haunted path through the epochs of the Galician poetry, the Vanguardias Award goes to Caerán lóstregos do ceo, by Adrián Canoura."

CAMIRA Jury, formed by Ramón Rey, María Aller and Daniel de Partearroyo:
"For being an endless sequence of visual findings and textures in whose search finds the meaning of its strong conceptual commitment, we give a Special Mention to Fugue, A Light’s Travelogue, by Els Van Riel. For knowing how to combine in its images the essence of the real and supernatural of tradition, in a sensory proposal that is as harmonious as it is lugubrious, we give the CAMIRA Award to Caerán lóstregos do ceo, by Adrián Canoura."

PASAJES DE CINE SECTION

Jury Open ECAM, composed this year by Claudia Negro, Elena Saura and Telmo Basterretxea:
"It is a bit strange to be on this side of the stage, and even more so when last week we were receiving the last analysis of the film school’s practices. We, like you, are in the process of finding a voice of our own, in a way to position ourselves in cinema. Let us say that it has been a very special experience to see us reflected in your films, in the mistakes and successes of each one of them and in the nerves of the Q&A afterwards. We hope to see you on the road. For offering us a piece full of poetry, we give a Special Mention to Ansiedad y la cámara, by Rocío Montaño. For making us travel to a strange reality from the everyday, as an exercise of formal and discursive containment, for the coherence between the form and the background, for daring to go out and look beyond the immediate environment, for all this the Open ECAM Award is for Kunda, by Pablo Teijón."

EPAC Paco Poch Jury, composed by Paco Poch, Óscar Fernández Orengo and Olga Ponoko:
"For his research into the weight of memory, his archive work, the variety of visual formats that range from television documentary to 4D animation, for reminding us of the importance of images seen during childhood as an important legacy in adult life, for its elaborated soundtrack and for its deep work of assembly that creates, in the end, a true tribute to cinema, we give the Paco Poch Award to La isla, by Miguel Rodríguez."
